Happy last week of February Reader!

This last weekend was the McCall Winter Carnival and this event always brings up big emotions for me.

I have a long history with this event. From 2008 to 2010 I volunteered as the beer garden event chair, from 2010 to 2020 I was the executive director of the entire Carnival, and now having stepped away from the intensive event planning aspects, continue to manage all of the promotions.

The thing about Carnival is that everyone has an opinion...and a choice few share those opinions without a single care for the real humans behind the "Carnival" name. People who put in a TON of effort. People who care A LOT.

So the barbs hit hard.

I have to say that even though I KNOW to let this kind of negativity roll off my back, it doesn't always. It is hard to hear someone say they don't like the job you do!

Whether it is an event like the McCall Winter Carnival or your own business, negative feedback is HARD to hear...and can sometimes deter us from putting ourselves out there in the first place!

I mean, what if we do all this work and people still don't like what you have to offer?!

Read on for my hot take and a bit of motivation as we head into March 🔥

Your Action List

I only have one very important action item for you this week...

✅ Register for our Social Media Starter Kit Workshop!

I know, shameless plug. But I am so excited about this live workshop on March 20th in McCall and I don't want you to miss it!

So what's the workshop all about?

Revolutionizing Your Social Media Planning to save you time and keep you consistent 💫

At this event we are zeroing in on a custom content matrix.

The content matrix is a game-changer for social media strategy. Unlike a traditional content calendar that offers generic prompts, the matrix provides a structured framework tailored to your unique needs. A roadmap, if you will.

This matrix becomes the foundation of your social strategy. A quick-reference you can use to streamline your content ideation, creation, and posting.

Ready to make managing your socials so much easier? Feel confident in what you are posting? Save time?

What if they don't like me?

I think this is the #1 underlying fear we all have when we put ourselves out there in any way - from what our branding looks like to launching a website to our social media presence.

This fear that someone will think you fall short in some way.

But here's the thing...and it is so freeing once you are on board:

Not everyone will like you.

That took me a long time to finally be okay with 😆

I am a people pleaser through and through. I am a perfectionist. I want to make people happy. So when they aren't it feels like a direct hit.

This year I decided on a new goal, one that I hope will be a recurring theme in life: "Be unapologetically you."

Ironically, this is a fantastic mantra for marketing. You simply cannot be everything to everybody. You have to find your people. Not everyone will love you. Not everyone will buy from you. And that is great!

There are plenty of people who DO like you - who want what you are offering, who like your vibe, who appreciate your efforts. While it is so easy to get caught up in a few negative comments, remember that it isn't the majority. Those comments are the outliers.

Don't let the few negatives deter you from being unapologetically you. Because that is what makes you stand out - what makes you unique! In your branding, in your voice, in your offering.

And let's get real...those people who can be so cruel and mean online are likely just wanting to make someone feel as bad as they do.

It isn't personal 💛

You're doing great! Keep putting yourself out there and find your people!

SMART Goals

Is it spring yet?! I am so ready for a reset and refresh.

Spring is also when I set my annual goals. I tend to skip New Year's Resolutions in favor of spring goals because it just feels like a more clear time of year. Days are longer, we are past the crazy rush of the holidays, and we have had some time to settle into the new year.

Not only do I like to set goals in the spring, I have to say that using SMART goals has been a game-changer for me when it comes to actually hitting my goals.

I use the SMART goal framework for everything from blog posts to bigger picture growth targets. And if you are looking to set some spring goals of your own, I thought this might be a great opportunity to do a quick refresh on what SMART goals are!

What is the SMART Goal

  • Specific: i.e. demonstrate how this post benefits my audience
  • Measurable: i.e. 100 newsletter opt-ins
  • Attainable: i.e. 1% conversion of all impressions
  • Relevant: i.e. supports my upcoming course launch
  • Time-Bound: i.e. 4 weeks

Happy goal-setting!
